About

Katherine Segel is an illustrator and photographer whose work focuses on combining narrative and illustrative design. Born and raised in London, Kate has lived in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Italy and New York. She graduated from Washington University Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts with a BFA in Communication Design, with a focus on Illustration, and a minor in Marketing.

Kate loves to draw inspiration from the world around her, especially in her travels and interactions with other cultures. While studying in Florence, Kate took up residency in a local café observing the rhythms of the neighborhood, inspiring a collection of sketches later featured in her first book, La Ménagère.

In the summer of 2017, Kate was sent to India as a photo journalist for Justice & Care, a UK-based charity focused on the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the victims of human-trafficking. It was there that she met Priya, who was taken at age 4 and forced to live as a domestic servant. Her harrowing story of survival was the muse for One in 46 Million, Kate’s most recent book, conveying the experience of trafficking from a victim’s perspective coupled with an insistent call to end slavery.

Kate currently resides in Los Angeles, California and is pursuing a career in editorial illustration.
